Bored with the hamster-wheel approach to gym fitness or the low-impact snoozefests? If your idea of exercise is climbing imaginary stairs while reading the newspaper and checking out stock quotes on CNBC, boxing probably isnt for you. But if its a workout youre looking for a real calorie-incinerating, stress-reducing sweat-a-thon then lace up those gloves. Boxing provides maximum workout, and better yet, you dont need to step into the ring with the heavy hitters and lose some of those precious brain-cells or risk your bridgework to reap the benefits.
Boxings continuous, full-body movements with or without the contact make for an intense cardio workout that can shape and tone muscles while developing balance, hand-eye coordination, and endurance.
The typical boxing routine is based on footwork and throwing punches in combinations. Beginners will learn the proper stance and basic punches Jab, straight right, hooks, and uppercuts. Theyll practice throwing continuous punches in combination, called shadowboxing. From shadowboxing, students move on to the heavy bag, the light bags, and the focus mitts, a pair of hand held punching bags. Instead of weight training, boxers learn to jump rope and get reacquainted with old school calisthenics such as sit-ups, pull-ups, and leg lifts. Like a typical bout, all the segments of a boxing regimen, whether its bag work or jumping rope, are ruled by an old-fashioned round clock three minutes of work followed by one minute of rest. When the bell rings, its back to work.
Boxing training is constant learning; its the constant learning that helps keep boxing out of the usual gym routine rut. It requires a rare combination of strength, endurance, and agility. While it may not be easy, it does produce results!
We will offer 3 training options at BBC: Open Gym, Boxing classes, and Personal 1-on-1 training. Whatever you need to get the job done right.
